TROPICAL 7s can announce that the 2024 tournament will be officially recognized as a referee development camp for USA Rugby, the national governing body for rugby in the US. The 2024 Tropical 7s Referee Programme will feature a record total of 80 referees, 24 of whom will be participating in the USA Rugby 7s Referee Development Camp. The camp will be run by USA Rugby 7s Director Nick Ricono, who will be assisted by a team of 4 other highly experienced coaches, backed up by several seasoned referees acting as mentors.
“We are very excited for the largest and most age-diverse Tropical 7s referee programme to date. With somatches running all day and into the evening across 13 pitches, all the referees will get plenty of opportunity to enjoy themselves, showcase their skills, and help to successfully facilitate over 600 matches,” commented Roy Monk, Referee Manager for the 2024 TROPICAL 7s.
“We are excited to be an official development camp for USA Rugby referees for the second year running and support the ongoing development of match officials in the US,” said Tropical 7s Executive Director John Siner. “Tropical 7s has quickly grown into one of the world's major rugby tournaments, and our partnership with USA Rugby is further validation of our event's attractiveness to not only teams and players but also aspiring referees.”
TROPICAL 7s attracts qualified and experienced match officials from across the globe to be part of an internationally-diverse referee programme and officiate at one of the world's leading international rugby 7s events. The programme offers referees a great experience on and off the pitch with competitive matches in a conducive environment, including referee coaches working directly with referees during the event. In 2023, the Tropical 7s Referee programme was recognized for the first time as a USA Rugby Referee development camp.

The 2024 TROPICAL 7s is being held on 29-30 March 2024 (Fri/Sat of Easter weekend) at the Tournament Sportsplex of Tampa Bay in Florida, USA.
