Organizers of the 2025 TROPICAL 7s have released the provisional match schedule and confirmed the competition formats for all divisions ahead of this year’s tournament, which will feature more than 200 teams. The formats aim to maximize playing time and provide competitive, meaningful matchups across youth, collegiate, and senior levels. All details of this year;s competition including the provisional match schedule (which is subject to change without notice) can be accessed via the TROPICAL 7s app (available to download from your usual app store) or can be accessed online via the Tropical 7s Results Centre - HERE.

TROPICAL 7S, one of the largest international youth rugby sevens events in the world, will take place over Easter weekend and include multiple age groups and divisions for boys, girls, and mixed-gender teams.

U18 Divisions

  • U18 Boys Elite (12 teams): Teams are split into three pools of four. Top teams advance to an 8-team Championship/Plate playoff bracket; others compete in a 4-team consolation pool.

  • U18 Boys Open (30 teams): Eight pools (six pools of four, two of three). Pool winners and runners-up advance to separate Championship/Plate and Trophy/Bowl playoffs. Remaining teams play consolation matches.

  • U18 Girls Elite (12 teams): Identical to the Boys Elite format, with 3 pools of 4 teams and playoffs for all teams based on final pool rankings.

  • U18 Girls Open (32 teams): Eight pools of four. Pool winners progress to Championship/Plate playoffs, runners-up to Trophy/Bowl playoffs, and remaining teams into consolation pools.

  • U18 Girls Development (7 teams): Single pool format with six matches per team. The team with the best record is crowned champion—no playoffs.

U16 Divisions

  • U16 Boys Elite (7 teams) and U16 Girls Elite (7 teams): Both divisions play a single round-robin pool with six matches per team. No playoffs; the best overall record determines the champion.

  • U16 Boys Open (16 teams): Four pools of four. Top two teams per pool progress to an 8-team Championship/Plate playoff. Others enter consolation pools.

  • U16 Girls Open (15 teams): Three pools of five. Teams move into second-round 3-team pools based on pool standings to determine final rankings.

U14 Divisions

  • U14 Boys (16 teams): Four pools of four. Top two teams per pool advance to Championship/Plate playoffs; remaining teams enter consolation pools.

  • U14 Girls (8 teams): Two pools of four. All teams advance to an 8-team playoff bracket.

U12 Coed Division

  • U12 Coed (12 teams): Three pools of four. The top two from each pool and the top two 3rd-place teams advance to an 8-team playoff. Remaining teams enter a consolation pool.

U23 and Senior Divisions

  • U23 Men & U23 Women (11 teams each): Two pools (6 and 5 teams). Teams play within their pool. Equal-ranked teams from each pool face off in placement matches. No playoff for the 6th-placed team in Pool A.

  • Senior Men (7 teams): Single pool format with six matches per team. The team with the best record is crowned champion—no playoffs.

  • Senior Women (8 teams): Two pools of four. All teams advance to an 8-team Championship/Plate playoff bracket.

Playoff Seeding and Tie-Breakers

All playoff brackets are pre-seeded prior to the start of the tournament. Organisers will try to avoid re-matches from the pool stage where possible. Teams earn 4 points for a win, 2 for a draw, and 0 for a loss or forfeit (30–0 score awarded to the opponent). Tie-breakers follow a defined sequence: head-to-head result, point differential, points scored, and, if needed, a coin toss.
